Relaxed Family Photography in Berkhamsted

BECAUSE THIS SEASON WON’T LAST FOREVER

Family life is beautifully, gloriously messy — and it moves faster than you think. My job is to slow it down for a moment and give you images that actually feel like you: real, warm, and full of the little details you’ll want to remember.

Family sessions with me are outdoors, unhurried, and built entirely around your family — whether that’s toddlers who won’t sit still, teenagers who’d rather not be there, grandparents visiting for the weekend, or just your little crew on an ordinary Saturday. We’ll find somewhere you love, let the kids do their thing, and I’ll quietly get the photos while everyone’s busy simply being together.

I’m based in Berkhamsted and regularly photograph families across Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire and North London, either outdoors in beautiful natural locations or in the comfort of your own home.

Your Photoshoot

StARTS HERE

A relaxed family photoshoot starts long before the camera comes out. From the very beginning, I’ll guide you through the process and help everything feel calm, easy and tailored to your family. Send me a message and tell me a little about your family – whether it’s just your immediate family, grandparents visiting for the weekend, or several generations getting together. Once we’ve found a date that works, we’ll start planning everything else together.

We’ll talk about the kind of photographs you’re hoping for, how you’d like the session to feel, and the locations that would suit your family best. I regularly photograph families at places like Ashridge Estate, Hampstead Heath and Hollow Ponds, and I’m always happy to suggest beautiful outdoor spots across Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire and North London — or we can head somewhere that already means something to you. By the time photoshoot day arrives, all you’ll need to do is turn up and enjoy being together.

Enjoy The Experience

I’ll take care of the rest

Your session is designed to feel more like a fun family outing than a traditional photoshoot. I’ll gently guide things throughout — suggesting little prompts, movement and moments that help everything feel natural and relaxed rather than stiff or overly posed.

Children are very welcome to run, play, explore and completely ignore me – this is often when the best photographs happen.

Sessions usually last around 60–90 minutes, though little ones tend to set the pace. If everyone’s having fun, we’ll keep going. If energy starts to dip, we’ll slow things down or wrap up — because relaxed, happy children always make for the most natural photographs.

Within two to three weeks of your session, you’ll receive a carefully edited online gallery filled with natural, heartfelt images that capture your family exactly as they are right now.

From there, you’ll be able to choose the photographs you love most, with the option to turn them into beautifully crafted prints, frames and keepsakes designed to be enjoyed long after the moment itself has passed. Whether you’re looking for a few favourite images or something more substantial for your home, I’ll help guide you through the options in a relaxed, uncomplicated way.

Lyndsey has an incredible ability to capture real, natural moments. Our kids were themselves and the photos are stunning.

FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHY (THAT FEELS LIKE YOUR FAMILY)

I’m based in Berkhamsted and photograph families across Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire and North London (I lived there for many years and know it well). Many sessions happen at Ashridge — but I’m equally happy at a location that already means something to your family, or somewhere completely new to explore together. If you’re further afield, get in touch and we’ll find the right spot.

Families who book me usually aren’t looking for perfectly posed photographs or a stressful photoshoot experience. They want to hold onto this stage of family life before it changes again — because children grow, grandparents get older, and ordinary Saturdays somehow become the moments you miss most.

My sessions are relaxed, natural and built around real connection. The result is a gallery of photographs that genuinely feel like your family — images to enjoy now, to pass down later, and often to give as meaningful gifts to the people who’ll treasure them most.

Let’s Chat

Why Families Come Back

I know what it’s like to blink and suddenly realise how much has changed. My whole approach is built around capturing your family as it is right now — not a perfect, polished version of it, but the real, warm, wonderful thing.

Many of the families I photograph come back year after year — to mark how their children have grown, welcome a new baby, gather several generations together, or simply because time has passed faster than they expected. That repeat trust is one of the things I’m proudest of.

A few things that might matter to you: I’m paediatric first aid trained, experienced with children of every age and temperament, and very used to working with children who need a little more time, movement, flexibility or space to warm up. Most parents tell me the session felt far more relaxed than they expected — and that they barely noticed the camera after the first few minutes.

Because when everyone feels comfortable, the photographs become something magical: images that feel like your family, rather than a performance of it.

Things people ask

Questions

I’m based in Berkhamsted and work across Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire and North London. I love outdoor locations like Ashridge, Berkhamsted Castle, Pitstone, Hollow Ponds and Hampstead Heath – but I’m equally happy photographing somewhere that already means something to your family.
If you’re further afield, just get in touch and we’ll find the right spot together.

Yes – I regularly photograph families in their own homes as well as outdoors. Home sessions can feel especially relaxed for babies, quieter families, or anyone wanting something more personal and intimate.
For most family sessions with young children, though, I often encourage heading outdoors instead. Children usually stay far more engaged when they’re free to explore, run around and interact naturally, which makes the whole experience feel easier and more enjoyable for everyone.
If you’re specifically wanting to capture your home and this stage of family life within it, though, home sessions can be incredibly special too.
If you’re looking for a newborn session, you can find more information on my dedicated newborn photography page.

I offer a small pop-up studio setup which I can bring to your home if you have enough space. This works beautifully for simple family portraits, babies and milestone sessions – without needing to travel to a traditional studio.
My approach is still relaxed and natural, focusing on genuine expressions rather than heavily posed photographs.

I’m always happy to chat through outfit ideas before your session. In general, I recommend choosing clothes you feel genuinely comfortable in, with colours and textures that work naturally together rather than perfectly matching.

If the weather genuinely isn’t suitable, you have a couple of options. Often, we’ll simply rearrange your photoshoot for another date. If re-arranging is tricky, for example if people are travelling to be together, we will have a chat and come up with an alternative indoor location. I always keep a close eye on the forecast and will be in touch beforehand if we need to make a decision.

Absolutely – grandparents and other family members are always very welcome. Some of the most meaningful family photographs are the ones that include multiple generations together, and many families tell me later how grateful they are to have captured those relationships while they could.
Extended family sessions can still feel relaxed and natural – we’ll usually mix a few everyone-looking shots with smaller groupings and more candid moments in between. Whether it’s grandparents, adult siblings, cousins or the whole family together, I’m happy to tailor the session around the people who matter most to you.

Absolutely. Dogs are very welcome – they’re part of the family too. I’m always happy to include them in sessions, and often some of the most joyful moments come from simply letting everyone relax and interact naturally together.

This is incredibly normal – and absolutely nothing to worry about. I never expect children to sit perfectly or perform for the camera. I work very gently and adapt sessions around your family, whether your children are energetic, shy, sensitive, neurodivergent, or simply having an off day. Very often, the moments parents worry about most end up becoming their favourite photographs.

Your edited gallery will be delivered within 2–3 weeks of your session via a private online gallery, where you can download, share, and explore print and artwork options if you’d like to.

Yes – I regularly photograph birthdays, christenings, family celebrations, anniversary parties and larger family gatherings across Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire and North London. Coverage can be tailored depending on the event, so please get in touch for a bespoke quote.
